‘World’s fastest car’ closer to reality as tests see it hit blistering speed

Koenigsegg's Jesko Absolut: The Hypercar Poised to Shatter Speed Records

In the high-stakes world of hypercars, a Swedish engineering marvel is poised to rewrite the record books. The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut, a testament to the brand's relentless pursuit of speed, is inching closer to becoming the world's fastest road-legal car, with computer simulations suggesting it could reach dizzying speeds of up to 311 mph.

Pushing the Boundaries of Automotive Prowess

Unleashing the Jesko Absolut's Potential

The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut is the latest creation from the mind of Christian von Koenigsegg, a Swedish automotive mastermind who has been pushing the boundaries of hypercar performance for over two decades. With rigorous testing and complex data analysis, the Koenigsegg team has amassed the data they believe will propel their creation to the top of the speed hierarchy, dethroning the current record holder, Bugatti.

The Jesko Absolut's impressive specifications are a testament to Koenigsegg's engineering prowess. Boasting a carbon-fiber body, the hypercar is both strong and lightweight, providing the ideal foundation for its record-breaking aspirations. Powering this speed demon is a supercharged 5.1-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine, delivering a staggering 1,578 horsepower and a mind-bending 1,106 lb-ft of torque.

According to von Koenigsegg, the team's computer simulations have provided them with a clear understanding of the Jesko Absolut's aerodynamic capabilities, giving them the confidence to push the car to its limits. "We know exactly how the aero works on the car," the Swedish mastermind revealed, "and we managed to pass 500 km/h in ninth gear before hitting the rev limiter and still having some space in the chassis dyno."

Overcoming the Challenges

While the Jesko Absolut's potential is undeniable, von Koenigsegg acknowledges that there are two significant obstacles that must be overcome before the car can claim the title of the world's fastest road car.

The first challenge is finding the right location for the record attempt. The Jesko Absolut will require a stretch of road long enough to build up speed and gradually come to a stop, a feat that requires meticulous planning and coordination. Bugatti, for example, utilized Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessien test track for its record-breaking runs, taking advantage of the facility's extensive infrastructure and safety measures.

The second hurdle is finding the appropriate tires to withstand the immense forces generated at such high speeds. Bugatti's record-setting Chiron Super Sport was equipped with specially developed Michelin tires, a testament to the importance of tire technology in the pursuit of ultimate velocity. Koenigsegg's team will need to ensure that the Jesko Absolut's rubber can handle the extreme stresses of a record-breaking run.

Dethroning the Chiron

The Jesko Absolut's quest for the speed crown comes at a pivotal moment in the hypercar landscape. Bugatti, the current record holder with its Chiron Super Sport reaching 304 mph, has announced the discontinuation of the legendary model, marking the end of an era for the brand's iconic W16 engine.

Bugatti's farewell to the Chiron will be a special edition dubbed the "Super Sport L'Ultime," a unique and limited-edition variant that will "celebrate the end of the incomparable Chiron era." This final iteration of the Chiron will feature a striking blue and black design, with the names of major racing cities adorning the doors, paying homage to the model's illustrious history.

As Bugatti prepares to usher in a new era of hybrid hypercar technology, the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut stands poised to seize the speed crown, potentially becoming the fastest road-legal car in the world. With its uncompromising performance and the unwavering determination of the Koenigsegg team, the Jesko Absolut represents the next chapter in the ongoing quest for automotive supremacy.
